A Citizen's Checklist
Quick questions to ask before forming an opinion.
Before supporting a government action, ask:
- Is this authorized by the Constitution?
- Does this set a precedent I would be comfortable with my opponents using?
- Is this decision being made at the appropriate level (Federal vs. State vs. Local)?
- Does this violate a fundamental right of a minority group?
Why the Precedent Question Matters
The most important question is the second one. Powers granted to your preferred party will eventually be used by your opponents. Design the rules for the day your opponents win — because they will.
